GUITARS

Whether dialing in a tone in my DAW or using a real amp, if you want it to sound good, there’s a few things you need to consider before you come to me.

    what do you need?

  • a new set of strings
  • octave equivalent guitars
  • please bring along a midi-file of your track. These are normally created using programs like “guitar pro” or “tuxguitar”

  • what can i give you?

  • best-to-my-abilities-knowledge on how to record and mix your guitar parts
  • a selection of effect-pedals to shape your tone and get the sound you want to have
  • being a songwriter myself i also like to jump in on ideas (e.g. “hey maybe this note’s better” or “play this part using hammer-ons instead of alt-picking”). if you don’t wish this i will shut my face
BASS

Normally using DAW-Amps only. Please bring a new set of strings too. I know bass players who tend to use a set for about five years. Don’t be that guy.

    what do you need?

  • please bring along a midi-file of your track. These are normally created using programs like “guitar pro” or “tuxguitar”

  • what can i give you?

  • a bass tone that will adequately step up your whole song. whether it’s metal, pop, rock or jazz, it all stands and falls with a good bass tone.
  • same as with the guitars: enough knowledge to be there for you, consulting-wise
VOCALS

The core of a song is its vocals. If they don’t sit tight and perfect, the rest doesn’t matter.
This is where I come in.

    what do you need?

  • warm up! Don’t record with me first thing in the morning if you hadn’t had enough exercise first. i can help you with that if you don’t know how to do it

  • what can i give you?

  • a carefully assorted selection of microphones, depending on whatever type of vocal you do. Shouting sounds good with an SM7B. On some experimental parts you want to use an SCT800. Maybe you just need an SM58 (yes, they use these in studios).
  • doing a lot of vocals myself, i can guarantee the quality of your vocal-tracking. If you’re stuck somewhere I will consult your way out of it. If a part just won’t sound nice I will do my best coaching your performance in order to get that perfect tone. NEVER FIX IT IN THE MIX
DRUMS

Drums are the beating heart of a song. Without them, everything is life-less. In order to bring the drums themselves to life though, you’ll need a good recording and (sometimes) even better processing.
The recording part (as for now) is very easy. There is none. I possess neither good drums microphones nor the audio interface to ensure adequate drum tracking. So, MIDI is the way to go for now. But don’t let that scare you, they sound good! Also, it saves you time (and money).

    what do you need?

  • if you have any special kind of cymbal (e.g. some unique bell) bring it along. I’ll be happy to sample it
  • please bring along a midi-file of your track. These are normally created using programs like “guitar pro” or “tuxguitar”

  • what can i give you?

  • see audio below
